Patterson and Surbaugh Named NCAC Athletes of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio - The North Coast Athletic Conference released their Athletes of the Week, and two Denison Big Red student-athletes were honored this week. Senior men's tennis player Jake Patterson and Senior softball player Brooke Surbaugh have been named North Coast Athletic Conference tennis Players of the Week.

Jake Patterson would go 2-0 on the week, beating Kenyon's #3 Paolo Pocasangre in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4 in Patterson's singles match. In Doubles, Patterson would be paired with Wesley Huang, and the two would win their set 6-1, claiming the first victory in doubles matches for the Big Red. With Patterson's wins, he helped Denison beat Kenyon 7-0 overall, moving the team to a 23-2 record, and 9-0 in conference play.

Brooke Surbaugh went 8-for-13 (.615) at the dish with nine RBI's and two home runs in the Big Red's sweep of Otterbein and conference foe Ohio Wesleyan. Against the Cardinals, Surbaugh would go 3-for-4 (.750) with two RBI's and a home run in game one, and went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and her second consecutive home run to help in a dominant sweep over Otterbein. Against Ohio Wesleyan, she collected another three RBI game, going 2-for-3 with two singles in an 11-1 win. Surbaugh went 1-for-3 in game two with her four-straight game recording an RBI, in which the Big Red would win, 9-7.

The men's tennis team will start to prepare for the NCAC Tournament Semifinal on Saturday, April 25 at 11 am, while softball gears up for Senior Day against Oberlin on Saturday, April 25 at 1 pm and 3 pm.
