Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals LIVE Scorecard, IPL 2026 LIVE Updates: Under Fire KKR Spinner Bounces Back, Dismisses Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

1
OUT!!! A big relief to Kolkata Knight Riders as spinner Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for 46. Going for a big hit again, Sooryavanshi hammered it hard but failed to time it properly. As a result, the ball landed into the hands of Ramandeep Singh at the deep mid-wicket.

RR 81/1 (8.4 overs)

The highly anticipated moment of the day came in the fifth over when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi faced veteran spinner Sunil Narine. On the second ball of the over, Sooryavanshi hit a massive six, fetching applause from the crowd. However, Narine held his nerves and did not leak even a single run in the remaining balls.

RR 41/0(5 overs)

Rajasthan Royals have got a good start against Kolkata Knight Riders. In the first over by Vaibhav Arora, the duo of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored six runs. This included a boundary from Jaiswal.

RR 6/0 (1 over)

"We wanted to bat first. In this situation, we want our batters to be free from any pressure. The bowlers have started to perform well, and I'm happy to lose the toss. We live in the past, we can't say about the future, just focus on the controllables. The preparation has been fantastic and the preparations have been good. Just go out there and do well. Same team," said KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane.

"We're batting first. Looks like a pretty dry wicket; the grass was cut yesterday. It could turn in the first innings and remain the same later on. Let's set the tone at the start: our focus is on doing better, last match was a learning phase, we need to take it into the games. Hetmyer and Brijesh are back, they replace Pretorious and Tushar Deshpande," said RR skipper Riyan Parag.

"It's always a great pleasure to be standing out here in the middle at Eden Gardens, and the IPL continues to excite, to enthrall, and to entertain, and we should be royally entertained today. I have no jacket on because it feels like about 40 degrees. They tell me it's about 36, 37. It feels warmer than that. The dimensions, as we stand here, away to my right about 58 meters, significantly larger away to my left, about 70 meters, and 74 down the ground. So those square boundaries, you'll find tactically coming into play. In terms of the surface, there is some nice green tinge still to it, so there is some more patches, but there's at least a little bit of grass on top," said Ian Bishop and Katey Martin.

"The IPL brings in new challenges and new opportunities every day. As much as possible, we must maintain a positive frame of mind. We might not be winning, but we're learning a lot, hopefully there will be a turnaround soon. Every day is an opportunity to do well, we need to forget the past and focus on future success. We want to give our 100%. Rahane only speaks positively to us, he thinks I'm in good form and that I must use it to help the team win," said KKR batter Ramandeep Singh.

The 'entry points' of Varun Chakravarthy has been particularly puzzling. Low on confidence from the T20 World Cup, the premier India spinner was used in the power play early in the season, conceding heavily, including a 25-run over to Abhishek Sharma, denting his confidence early on. It took him four matches to open his wickets tally with scalps of Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar in Ahmedabad.

All eyes will be on RR's batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. In the match against KKR, he will be eyeing a huge feat as he is just 99 runs away from completing his 1,000 T20 runs. So far, he has played just 23 T20 matches and scored 901 runs.

While Rajasthan had surged with four consecutive wins before being halted by Sunrisers Hyderabad, KKR have progressed in the opposite trajectory, still searching for their first win after six matches. Under Ajinkya Rahane, defeats have been the only constant, often from winning positions, leaving the side short on confidence and momentum.
